What Is Paint Protection Film?

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a film layer designed to safeguard your vehicle’s exterior. Think of it as an invisible armor that shields your paintwork from road debris, stone chips, bug splatter, bird droppings, and other environmental hazards.

Composed of a high-performance, transparent polyurethane material, our PPF is expertly applied to vulnerable areas like the front bumper, hood, fenders, and side mirrors, creating an impenetrable barrier.

Not only does this protective film provide a strong defense against scratches and stains, but it also preserves the pristine finish of your car, ensuring it looks as good as new for years to come.

Invest in the longevity and beauty of your vehicle with our professional Paint Protection Film service — because your car deserves the ultimate shield against the elements.

How Does Paint Protection Film Work?

Paint protection film consists of two layers:

  1. The bottom layer is an acrylic adhesive designed to bind the paint film protection to your car’s clear coat.
  2. The outer layer is made of urethane, which is thick and flexible. When a rock flies into your car, the urethane layer is able to flex and absorb the impact, protecting your car’s paint from chipping. This outer layer is also resistant to UV, oxidation, and a variety of airborne pollutants that can affect your paint job.

Paint protection film also has self-healing properties. Whether from a hot summer day or a heat gun, heat can make the thermoplastic polymer in the film more malleable, which helps smooth out scratches, scuffs, and scrapes in the film. This self-healing property is not permanent and does begin to diminish over the lifetime of your paint protection film installation.

How Long Does a Paint Protection Film Installation Take?

Generally, paint protection film installation lasts up to 5-7 years with proper maintenance and care.

Is Paint Protection Film Worth It?

If you’re looking to reduce the risk of damage to your car exterior, paint protection film is definitely worth it! Paint protection film can help reduce:

    • Light scratches
    • Rock chips
    • Chemical stains
    • Bug splatter
    • Hard water spots and swirl marks

Should I Get a Partial Front-End or Full Front-End Paint Protection Film Installation?

It depends on what your coverage goals are. If you have a newer car, you may want more protection. Partial front-end and full front-end installations are designed to protect impact zones — areas that are most susceptible to rock chips and scrapes. A full front-end installation is going to provide the most coverage for impact zones than a partial front-end installation.

Can You Install Ceramic Coating Over Paint Protection Film?

Yes, and we highly recommend it!

Ceramic coating can help extend the life of your paint protection film. Over time, environmental exposures such as UV rays, chemicals, and pollutants, tree sap, and bug splatter can affect your paint protection film, causing it to yellow, crack and peel.

Ceramic coating helps extend the life of your paint film protection due to its hydrophobic properties. This makes it easier to wash and remove contaminants from the surface of your vehicle that would otherwise settle into your unprotected paint protection film and become difficult to remove.

Aside from offering protection, ceramic coating adds a glossy shine to your car’s exterior that paint protection film can’t achieve alone. Click here to learn more about our ceramic coating installation options.
