FAQs About Ceramic Coating Installation in Buffalo, NY
How Do I Book an Appointment for Ceramic Coating Installation?
We make booking a car exterior detailing appointment simple and easy. Click here to access our scheduling app and simply follow the prompts.
How Long Does a Car Exterior Detail Job Take?
The ceramic coating installation process typically takes five hours to properly execute, with black vehicles taking twice as long. Once installation is complete, we keep your vehicle in our shop overnight to ensure the ceramic coating has 12 to 24 hours to cure.
Which Type of Ceramic Coating Do You Install?
At Loupe Detailing we currently use Jade Ceramic Coatings as we find them to be reliable, efficient, long-lasting, and manufactured in the United States. This means the coating is generally fresher and made in smaller batches. Quality control is a huge factor here.
Is Ceramic Coating Worth It?
Ceramic coating is 100% worth it if you want to:
- Protect your paint from everyday elements (UV rays, bird droppings, bug guts, chemicals, light marring)
- Have a much easier time cleaning and maintaining the vehicles coated surfaces
- Gain a smooth, glossy reflection that lasts years
Ceramic coatings are not worth it if you want to:
- You like to wax your vehicle every few months
- Your paint is in poor condition and the clear coat is failing (often looks like the paint is peeling away or faded)
How Does Ceramic Coating Work?
Simply put, ceramic coatings are silicon dioxide (SiO2) and they cover the clear coat of a vehicle’s paint to produce a very slick, durable surface. This application works best when the underlying clear coat has been decontaminated and is mostly free of scratches. The smoother the surface, the stronger the bond.
For some vehicles, it will take two detailers up to five hours to properly execute this process. Once perfectly clean the ceramic coating is applied and allowed to ‘flash’ or dry for a minute. Then 2 separate microfibers are used to remove the excess product.
After this is completed on all surfaces the vehicle will be left to cure for 12 to 24 hours. It is important that the coating remains dry in this time period so it cures fully.
After the drying period, you have a very hard coating on your paint that will greatly reject contaminants from sticking to the surface, UV rays that can degrade the clear coat, and provide a deep, glossy appearance that can last up to 5 years!
Will Ceramic Coating Prevent Rock Chips?
The simple answer is no. As hard as the ceramic coating is, it is not going to stop rocks at 55 mph from damaging your paint. The only true protection from deep scratches and rock chips is paint protection film. Click here to learn more about our paint protection film installation services.
Can Ceramic Coating Be Removed?
Yes, but it’s not an easy process. The purpose of the coating is to be resilient. A common reason why people pay for a ceramic coating service is for the peace of mind that it is being done correctly. If you were to leave a spot of coating that was too thick, it will show up on the paint and look like a defect.
To remove, a detailer can use acidic soaps and/or chemicals then follow up with a multistage compound and polish. This process can be very time-consuming.
Besides actually physically removing it, nature will wear the coating away over time. As the vehicle is exposed to UV rays, strong soaps, and other chemicals, the coating will begin to fail after a few years.
Due to this, we recommend coming into our shop every 3 to 6 months for a decontamination wash. A decontamination wash is important to get the most life out of your ceramic coating. During this service, one of our installers will decontaminate the paint of your care, evaluate the health of your ceramic coating, and apply a top coat to the existing ceramic coating to form a sacrificial layer of protection.
